HISTORY:

- Raiden was not born the traditional way as he came from the heavens. A God of Thunder. His form, like that of the Elder Gods’, was that of an ethereal dragon, able to shift through dimensions. The realms had just began to flourish. . . And so the Gods were tasked as protectors of each realm. Raiden received Earth Realm, inhabited by Saurians and the first of mankind.There he took form of a mortal man, dressed in white with a straw hat. . . Only tasked with one thing: “Do not meddle in the affairs of the realm”. But Raiden could not help such curiosity. He often found himself out and about, going through many countries, states, even cities. He learned many languages and eventually met someone. A lady, beautiful. Long black hair, dark brown eyes. Raiden often got lost in her eyes.- They fell in love and eventually wed. Raiden was happy, well-known, and a good friend to the people. To his wife. Life was good and only became better with the Birth of their Child which Raiden nicknamed Kidd Thunder. They were a family and resided in what is now China.Then it happened. Shinnok invaded Earthrealm for the first time, enamored with the people, the realm itself. Raiden did all that he could to protect his people, holding back Shinnok and his forces. But it wasn’t until the Elder God murdered his wife that Raiden had finally lost it.- To save his son’s life, he sent Kidd somewhere safe from what he was about to do. Then returned to his wife’s body. An apology was given as her body laid bloodied and limp in his arms.After his goodbyes, Raiden confronted Shinnok in battle. He had to do something, anything to protect Earthrealm from total destruction. The battles forced the Saurians to leave and the humans tried to evacuate but most were caught up in the carnage. Raiden eventually received help from the Elder Gods, causing him to be able to defeat the rogue God and banish him to the Netherrealm. Of course, the God of Thunder was tasked with protecting the Amulet of Shinnok which held Shinnok’s Elder God powers.- With this new task, Raiden constructed a temple that was rightfully called the Temple of Elements. There he got four Gods to watch over the Amulet, one of them being his brother, Fujin (The God of Wind). Located in the Sky Temple where he resides is his wife’s burial sight and altar.The reconstruction of Earthrealm was long and tedious. But once life started sprouting again, Raiden kept his distance. Not again would he become close with the mortals of the realm. Instead, he took back to his ethereal form and stayed in the Heavens with his son, only to visit Earthrealm if there was a threat or to see her grave.- When the elder Sub-Zero stole Shinnok's amulet for Quan Chi millions of years later, Raiden appeared before the Lin Kuei Warrior, and told him to enter the Netherrealm and steal it back, lest Shinnok use it to free himself. Raiden was unable to do it himself, as he would lose all of his powers in the Netherrealm. Sub-Zero did as requested, for the time being, removing Shinnok as a threat.Some time later, Shang Tsung invited Raiden to participate in Mortal Kombat. Aware of the threat posed by this tournament to the future of Earthrealm, Raiden took the form of a human to compete.

HEADCANONS:

— The Elder Gods & Gods that reside in the Heavens/Void take the form of Ethereal Dragons that were shaped like the Mortal Kombat Dragon. Raiden’s was a light blue color mixed with gray, formed of lightening. When he needed to go to Earthrealm, he took the form of a mortal man. The Gods’ dragon is much smaller than the Elder Gods’ dragon. All Dragon forms of the Gods are not physical to the touch. It’s almost like they are ghost-like.— Raiden was once married & very much in love. But when she was taken from him, he became cold. Vowing to never become close with anyone again, all the while protecting Earthrealm.— Raiden now fears any type of commitment whether that be friendship or a relationship. He cannot cope with the death of them when the time comes.— He is very stoic and formal. No one will see a different side of him until they are close enough to break his multiple barriers.— Even if he doesn’t express it at all, he considers Liu Kang and Kung Lao friends But because of his distancing, he was not phased on the outside when they died and it was easier to cope with it & move forward. In the back of his mind, he is tormented daily, knowing it was his fault.— If Raiden truly hated someone, it would be Shinnok. Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung are his enemies but he doesn’t have that same hatred.— Raiden has only been intimate with his ( late ) wife years ago. Since her death, he has not sought anyone else out.— Elder Gods and Gods do not die, they simply return to the heavens until they are able to rebuild their physical form. Raiden has done this several times throughout his life. The only exceptions are if Elder Gods kill an Elder God, an Elder God kills a God, or a God kills a God. Depending on the battle, it can result in a permanent death for said God or Elder God— Even though he is able to rebuild his physical form, scars from previous battles remain. He has them scattered all over his body plus one starting from the top of his left forehead over his eyebrow.— Raiden really loves cats. He has a bunch of them roaming the Sky Temple where he stays at. He also enjoys other animals as well, but none of them warm him up like a cat does.— He knows many, if not all languages but he mostly speaks English, German, Spanish, and Japanese. He knows the others but does not speak them unless he absolutely needs to.— Raiden will meditate anywhere that is quiet. Usually when he’s overly stressed or have free time.— He enjoys tea.— Despite being a God, Raiden DOES have a few phobias: Claustrophobia fear of small spaces, Autophobia fear of being alone, Catoptrophobia fear of mirrors.— He doesn’t like to be touched without consent but might make some exceptions. It depends on the situation.— Most of the time, he wears his outfit from Deadly Alliance.— Raiden is often has a lot of inner conflict and corruption he has to fight with on the daily. ( Of course it is not noticeable until WAY later ). Currently, he is able to control this inner conflict.— He is Demiromantic and Demisexual. He needs a strong emotional bond to even think about pursuing the relationship which can be hard because he’s so closed off.— Doesn’t use pet names and is not very affectionate, but he is rather overly protective. That may or may not fade away depending on how understanding the other is.— His S/O could possibly affect his decisions & how he protects Earthrealm.— The Elder Gods had “ special made “ Raiden. No emotion. No soul. A blank slate for them to form and mold into their puppet. Raiden was infused with one trait and that was to always respect and be loyal to the Elder Gods. While Raiden has bouts of doubt and betrayal, he will ALWAYS return to being loyal to them. Like something happens and no matter how much Raiden fights it, he will always return to them. This cannot be changed. He is forever a toy to the elder gods.That is until they died. And while he blames himself for their deaths, he will not make the mistakes they did as Elder God in Liu Kang’s renewed timeline.— If I were to do Guardian of Time Raiden, it would be after his first remake of the timeline where he infuses love and compassion into himself and the timeline.— In regards to “ Dark Raiden “, the reason it still exists is the fact that Shinnok’s amulet and the corruption he experienced after cleansing the Jinsei, it had left a permanent stain of Darkness upon his heart. While he may be unhinged, meditation helps him control this side. Currently, it would take something bad to make him go Dark. ( The Jinsei part does not apply to my Raiden yet timeline wise and the amulet corruption is not visible ).— Raiden lost his right index finger in Kombat.— I HC that the aura of Gods are calming to animals so even the most aggressive of animals will be completely docile with the God if they are calm.— That being said, Raiden has five snakes; An albino Western Diamondback Rattlesnake named Jinsei, An albino Cobra named Yuki, A Rinkhals Cobra named Mayonaka, a blue green tree python named Sora and a black iridescent reticulated python named Niji.— In addition to his snakes, he also owns two birds. A blue and gold Macaw named Ten’nō and a red & blue eclectus parrot named Hijiri. He’s had both since they were babies and despite them loving him, they also love to bully him. Often.— Continuing on, he has a Chilean Rose Tarantula named Hana, a Myotonic Goat named Mo and a red fox named Todd.— Aside from those, he has a plethora of cats as mentioned before and he’s named them all, but there are far too many of them for me to name here. His main cats that hang around often are;A fluffy white cat with blue eyes named Kiyo. He named her after his wife. A Siamese cat named Kai. And a Himalayan cat named Mei.— The way someone can tell if Raiden is permanently dead, is if the storms at Sky Temple have stopped. If it is sunny there, Raiden is permanently dead. HOWEVER, if he was damaged enough to near permanent death, the storms will also cease. Gods do not know that. The Elder Gods may, but Raiden does not want them telling people that.— Raiden has a LOT of scars over his body. He is going blind in his left eye and his right eye has some blurred vision. ( This is unknown unless you know what you are looking for ). He has a lot of body aches and pains and CAN get sick ( rarely ).— His body is sensitive to touch, mostly because electricity covers his whole body ( the reason why he doesn’t like people touching him ).— Raiden’s emotions play a big part in how well he can control his Thunder. The Elder Gods fear Raiden’s uncontrollable powers so they readjusted his personality to how they seem fit. While He can grow from this, Raiden almost always remains stoic in fear he’d hurt someone.— Raiden has nightmares of other timelines as well as visions throughout the day. They are painful and they scare him. But he tries to brush it off.Will add more later

Raiden’s son and “mini-me”. Their relationship is rocky but Raiden would do anything and everything to keep him safe. Raiden is tough on him, training Kidd to be the next Thunder God for when his own time is up.— FUJIN @HisFaithIsGone
Wind God and Raiden’s brother. He is one of the only people he shows any kind of emotion other than anger to. (Besides Kidd Thunder of course). Fujin helped him through his wife’s death.—- EIKO @CREATlONOFLIFE
While they’re technically not related Lord Eiko did in fact create Raiden and went on to create Fujin later.
